Copthorne & District Angling Society
From: The General secretary – does this refer to you?
The attention of your committee has been drawn to the following recent infringements of our rules:
1. The owners of the Mill have reported instances of litter being left at swims (or behind swims). For example, behind swim 6 a large amount of litter was found following the occupation of this swim during a Saturday night session by two junior anglers. Additionally empty boilie bags were also found both here and in other swims. Leaving litter seriously prejudices the continuation of our leases. All members must take away their litter (and any other litter found) [rule 38] – if not you will seriously endanger your continued membership of CDAS. Further the use of boilies on any of our waters is strictly forbidden [rule 35] and anyone found using them would be instantly expelled from CDAS.
2. Car parking at our waters is strictly in the car parks. Members (or people giving members a lift) must not use the driveway to Mill House at Rowfant Mill to drop anglers and or tackle off. The new tenants at the house have complained about this practice and any member (or person giving a lift to a member) using the driveway in this way will result in the forfeiture of CDAS membership for the member involved.
3. Very few anglers are using unhooking mats when fishing for pike / carp [rule 32]. I have personally observed two instances when carp have been dropped onto the bank whilst a photograph was being posed. All members must have with them an unhooking mat whilst fishing for pike / carp – carp are expensive to buy for restocking purposes and deserve to be looked after properly when caught - not carelessly dropped (which frequently results in their death). All fish should be returned to the water as quickly and safely as possible - photographs should be taken with the minimum of distress caused to the fish.
The people responsible for these infringements of the rules are jeopardising our continued fishing of L.Rowant, the Mill and other waters. Your committee will not tolerate such behaviour [rule 13] and the bailiffs have instructions to ensure strict observance of the rules and to confiscate the membership cards (and thus ability to fish [rule 25] of any offenders. If members are aware of any rule infringements they are requested to note the offenders card number and to report the details to the secretary or any officer of CDAS. Remember it is your fishing that may be being placed in jeopardy - safeguard it.

Special note on match days rules from the club sec
(1) Please note that on match days the venue listed on the fixture list is closed to all except those taking part in the match (competition rule 6). Proceedings on Sunday were marred by the appearance of a member intent on doing some 'swim clearance' at the side of peg 7 despite an angler in the match being at peg 8. Please do not undertake bankside clearances without the express permission of the baliff and/or the secretary.
(2) Please also note rule 29 - all waters (except the R.Ouse and the Horse Pasture) are permanently pegged and members must fish from these pegs and not create new swims.
MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL SEC ON SWIM CLEARANCE
Further to my message regarding swim and bankside work
SOMEONE HAS CLEARED AN AREA OF THE BOTTOM BANK OF THE WILDERNESS AT L.ROWFANT TO CREATE A NEW SWIM. THIS IS IN CONTRAVENTION OF RULE 29

Please note rule 29 - all waters (except the R.Ouse and the Horse Pasture) are permanently pegged and members must fish from these pegs and NOT create new swims.- Gen.sec.
